This part of the San Bernardino National Forest offers two designated single track trails, an ATV trail and a 4x4 trail. The terrain can be described as mostly rugged hard packed with a few steep climbs and loose chunk rock. The Cactus to Clouds hike is epic. It was rated one of the hardest day hikes in the world by Backpack Magazine. You start in downtown Palm Springs and climb o feet to the summit of Mt San Jacinto, with a large stretch on the treacherous Skyline Trail.

The "trail" starts in a desert cactus and shrubbery ecosphere then becomes an unrecognized, non-system route (not marked, not maintained) at the Mount San Jacinto State Park boundary line (5, feet) among granite outcrops and conifers. This route is not defined and routinely causes hikers to become lost or distressed. View 11 photos of this 4 bed, 3 bath, 2, Sq. Campers have plenty to choose from. The San Jacinto area offers two drive-in campsites, four hike-in primitive campsites, and adventures for every brand of wilderness craving. If you want to backpack to the summit over a day or two try the Deer Springs Trail. This park has adventures for every brand of wilderness craving%(). Hardcore hikers can take the infamous Cactus to Clouds Trail that gains an astound feet of elevation over 14 miles from the desert floor in Palm Springs to the alpine peak of San Jacinto (a vertical half mile more than Mount Whitney, and the greatest elevation gain of any trail in the contiguous United States), but our route shaved.
